The best way to sustainability

Sustainability is unavoidable. It will happen anyway by the interplay of ecological, social and economic disasters. But we could take initiatives: we can design and develop this transition in a process of collective decisions and actions.

This series of conferences co-develops with the Master in Eco-Social Design at the Faculty of Design and Art of the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano. The 2018 edition will take place 22-25 March, in Bolzano–Bozen and in Obervinschgau, a beautiful high valley and a hotspot of eco-social innovation.

What can design do for commons?

With Assemble Studio (UK), Salvatore Iaconesi & Oriana Persico (IT), Adelheid Biesecker (DE), Viktoria Heinrich / IDRV (AT), Officine Zero (IT), Brave New Alps (IT/UK) and many more (to be confirmed).

Commons are resources/projects/creations that are managed by groups of people, who are not owners, but rather co-responsible and more or less equal users and creators. The verb »commoning« emphasizes that commons have to be created, designed, maintained, defended and/or reclaimed. Commoning is gaining traction as an alternative economy and culture.

We will tackle issues related to the question »What can design do for commons?« with international experts and local heros, coming from very diverse backgrounds. As always our conference offers a convivial mix of inspiring presentations, challenging discourses, intense workshops and delicious food in a sunny environment.
