make-a-thek Bus Tour launches this week!

Our mobile pilot bus, Matty, is equipped with tools, kits, and workshop formats that showcase how public libraries can become vibrant spaces for creativity, learning, and sustainable innovation. By travelling to small and medium-sized towns — especially in rural and underserved areas — the tour makes hands-on making more accessible beyond urban centres.

From 30 May to 13 June 2026, Matty will travel from Berlin through Germany, Czechia, and Poland, stopping in cities including Werder, Bad Belzig, Görlitz, Teplice, Vrchlabí, Wroclaw, Lódz, Poznan, and Spreewald. Along the route, local events and workshops will take place in libraries, public spaces, and makerspaces together with regional partners.

The programme focuses on circular fashion and crafts, featuring activities such as textile upcycling, repair and customisation, embroidery, natural dyeing, biomaterials, loom building, collective patchwork making, and community clothes swaps. The workshops combine traditional craft practices with digital fabrication tools like laser cutting and 3D printing.

This first route marks the beginning of a larger European journey, followed by tours through the Baltic States in August and Northern Spain and Portugal in autumn 2026.
